Initial Impression
After two years of training and racing exclusively in the Norda 001 across Vancouver's technical trails, I finally laced up the highly anticipated 005 model. Here's my trail-tested take after putting them through their paces on our demanding North Shore terrain.

Performance Highlights
The 005 maintains what made the 001 great while making significant improvements. The forefoot offers that perfect width for stability without excess bulk, while the revised outsole delivers exceptional grip across our notoriously slick North Shore conditions.
Most impressively, my size 10s weigh just 230g per shoe—80g lighter than the 001s. This weight reduction translates to real performance gains, especially on our quad-burning climbs. Despite feeling significantly lighter, the new midsole provides better comfort and responsiveness, inspiring confidence to push limits on technical descents.

Smart Design Updates
The Dyneema upper is noticeably softer and more flexible, with improved breathability throughout. The lower ankle collar eliminates chafing concerns, while the secure heel cup remains complemented by an effective lace-lock system. The midfoot wrap has been stripped down without sacrificing security, and pressure points are non-existent even when locked down tight for technical sections.
During early spring testing in Vancouver's typical wet conditions, I noticed the 005 sheds water more efficiently than its predecessor, quickly returning to a comfortable state after puddle crossings.

The Verdict
While the 001 remains a bombproof training shoe for any season, the 005 represents its race-focused evolution—a technical terrain weapon that's particularly well-suited to Vancouver's demanding mountain trails. For fellow trail runners seeking performance that balances weight reduction with technical capability, the Norda 005 sets a new standard that has me planning longer adventures and faster times on our local routes.
