On was founded in 2010 in Zurich by Olivier Bernhard — a former Ironman and duathlon world champion — together with David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti. Bernhard had prototyped the first CloudTec sole by gluing cut sections of garden hose to the bottom of a running shoe; the hollow rubber pods compressed on landing and locked firm for push-off, and the idea scaled. The brand still runs its R&D out of Zurich and has been listed on the NYSE since September 2021.
The Weather Jacket is On's packable wind-and-water-repellent running shell — ultralight Japanese-milled polyamide with a PFC-free DWR, a micro-ventilation pattern for 360-degree breathability, and a silhouette cut for running.
