Peak Performance was founded in 1986 in Åre, Sweden by three ski racers — Stefan Engström, Peter Blom and Christer Mårtensson — who believed ski kit should be both technically honest and genuinely good looking. From a single shop in a mountain town at the 63rd parallel, the brand grew into Scandinavia's most recognisable mountainwear name. HQ moved to Stockholm in 1999; Amer Sports acquired the brand in 2018 (alongside Arc'teryx, Salomon, Atomic), and the line is led by President Stefano Saccone from April 2025. The Åre maxim still holds: if it can handle Åre, it can handle anything.

The Helium line is Peak Performance's packable-down answer — 700FP duck down, RDS-certified, traceable via Track My Down, quilted in the wavy-line Helium pattern the brand has used since the line launched. Face fabric is a 42 gsm 20D ripstop in recycled polyamide. Warmth-per-gram sits below ultralight-specialist brands, but Helium is built to live: it takes a backpack, a bike commute, a Stockholm winter. Made without intentionally added PFAS.
