Peak Performance was founded in 1986 in Åre, Sweden by three ski racers — Stefan Engström, Peter Blom and Christer Mårtensson — who believed ski kit should be both technically honest and genuinely good looking. From a single shop in a mountain town at the 63rd parallel, the brand grew into Scandinavia's most recognisable mountainwear name. HQ moved to Stockholm in 1999; Amer Sports acquired the brand in 2018 (alongside Arc'teryx, Salomon, Atomic), and the line is led by President Stefano Saccone from April 2025. The Åre maxim still holds: if it can handle Åre, it can handle anything.

Peak Performance's Trail HIPE shells trace a line from Åre, Sweden — where in 1986 three ski racers decided performance and good design shouldn't be a choice. HIPE® is their in-house waterproof-breathable membrane; the 3L version posts 20,000mm/20,000g numbers, fully seam-sealed, made without intentionally added PFAS. Cut for mountain running — articulated sleeves, stow-away hood, the Åre test-lab logic that a shell should disappear until the weather shows up. Then it earns its place.
