On was founded in 2010 in Zurich by Olivier Bernhard — a former Ironman and duathlon world champion — together with David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti. Bernhard had prototyped the first CloudTec sole by gluing cut sections of garden hose to the bottom of a running shoe; the hollow rubber pods compressed on landing and locked firm for push-off, and the idea scaled. The brand still runs its R&D out of Zurich and has been listed on the NYSE since September 2021.
THE ROGER line is Roger Federer's design partnership with On, launched in 2020 after Federer became an advisor and equity partner in 2019. The Advantage is the entry model — a tennis shoe cut for the everyday player and rebuilt into an all-day lifestyle court shoe. The Advantage Pro adds a more performance-oriented build: internal cage for lateral stability, herringbone court rubber, the same CloudTec platform at a higher spec.
