On was founded in 2010 in Zurich by Olivier Bernhard — a former Ironman and duathlon world champion — together with David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti. Bernhard had prototyped the first CloudTec sole by gluing cut sections of garden hose to the bottom of a running shoe; the hollow rubber pods compressed on landing and locked firm for push-off, and the idea scaled. The brand still runs its R&D out of Zurich and has been listed on the NYSE since September 2021.
The Cloudmonster Hyper takes the Cloudmonster silhouette and swaps the everyday Helion top for Helion HF — the PEBA-based hyper-foam first used on the Cloudboom Echo 3. The Cloudmonster 3 Hyper pushes stack to 45 mm heel / 39 mm forefoot and, in the LightSpray version, gets On's sprayed-on upper.
